Liberty Self-Directed Learning Center is a full-time fun and flexible school alternative program for kids ages five through eighteen. We are a mixed-age learning community that is play-based and interest-led. Our families and members are "homeschoolers" in the eyes of the state and Liberty SDLC acts as a resource for them to use at their pleasure. Therefore, there are no mandatory curriculums, no tests, no grades, or any sort of state or federal requirements that need to be met. Instead, we allow kids to "self-direct" or choose their own learning path. We as staff members support and facilitate them while they're on that path by offering and exposing them to all sorts of activities and experiences.
Kids lead.
Adults support.
We use our physical site and the community at large as both our playground and our classroom; furthermore, everyone is considered a teacher.
So, if you have a skill, hobby, profession, passion, experience, talent, or just a desire to get involved with kids exploring and learning from living life in this wonderfully crazy world, reach out to us.
No teaching experience needed.

Mission Statement
The Liberty SDLC respects and supports each young person’s innate desire to learn and grow. We believe in small learning communities where it’s safe for members to be their authentic selves. We promote the freedom to play, explore, and create in a pressure-free environment. We celebrate individuals’ strengths and support their growth by helping members set and accomplish their personal learning goals.
Description
We are a full-time alternative option to conventional public and privates schools. We are a resource for families and kids who decide to leave school and pursue a self-directed path instead. With our youngest kids we employ a play-based learning approach to learning with lots of available (but always optional) activities, experiences, and exposure to different things. For our preteens and teens, the focus is on supporting kids to discover and explore their own interests. We facilitate those interests and help them pursue them to the extent they choose to do so. This means that we're often reaching out to the community at large for involvement with our teens seeking out specific skills and interests. We also have an on-going and ever-changing menu of classes available for teens to participate in when and if they so desire. Do you have a specific skill or interest that kids might enjoy learning more about? There's nothing better than teaching when the students are passionate about what's being taught!
