Alameda Health System is starting an exciting nutrition program at Eastmont Wellness and Newark Wellness Centers. Participants in this special program will cook together healthy delicious meals under the supervision of our professional chef and registered dietitian Silvia Kellum. The volunteers task include:
- Set up and clean up
- Assist patients who need extra help
- Fill the produce bags with the ingredients patients will take home
- Post videos and pictures on social media
- Make copies of the handouts and recipes
- Mail information to patients - from a spreadsheet - this can be done remotely.
- Check program’s email - can be done remotely
- Supermarket tours: help needed to assist patients to stay in the group and focused.
- Farmers market tours: help needed to gather patients in group
Volunteers have the opportunity to learn from an expert!
The program will run weekly for 12 weeks. Farmer’s market and supermarket tours will be on a Saturday.
The cooking classes will run weekly Tuesday and Wednesday from 3 to 5 PM. The set up will start at 2 PM. The program will start the first week of September 2022.
