We are so excited about RAWdance's newest work, Step/Song/Story, a live, collaborative storytelling event that will bring together Bay Area-based dancers, musicians, and text-based/literary artists for a public cross-disciplinary performance. On the third Sunday of each month from September-November, the Main Plaza of TJPA’s Salesforce Park will come alive with original choreography, live music, and the spoken word, to celebrate the power of each individual medium to move us, and amplify the transformative experience that occurs when they come together in creative conversation.

We are looking for volunteers to help greet audience members, pass out programs, and answer simple questions about the event. This help is instrumental in making this new outdoor work a fun and smooth experience for everyone!

Performances are free and will take place twice each day at 12pm and 2pm. Each month will feature a mix of different contributors, to highlight the expansive array of local artistic voices and perspectives. Step/Song/Story is presented in partnership with the Transbay Joint Powers Authority, owner and operator of the Salesforce Transit Center and Rooftop Park.

We'd like volunteers to arrive around 11:30am for the 12noon performance and 1:30pm for 2pm show. The performances run approximately 30 minutes, so it'll be about a 1 hour time commitment in total. The main job will primarily be directing audiences to where the performance will start from the park's various entrance points, reminding audiences to observe all posted notices, and helping people who may have questions.

If you're interested and free for one or all dates - September 18, October 16, and/or November 20, please get in touch!

If you might be interested and available to help out, we'd be so grateful. Let me know if you have any questions and please be in touch with which day(s) you'd like to volunteer! And if you have friends, neighbors, or family who might like to volunteer (or join you to volunteer as a team!) that would be incredible, too. Please feel free to pass this call-out on to them and reach out to us.

Thank you so much for considering!

About RAWdance

Location:

Mission Statement

RAWdance champions the power of movement as an indispensable source of connection and a visceral medium to illuminate the issues of our time. We commit to creating adventurous, thoughtful and welcoming programming that challenges what contemporary dance is, where it happens, who it includes, and the role it plays in our lives.

Description

RAWdance is an award-winning contemporary dance company known for transforming theaters and public spaces through a mix of performance, curation, and collaboration. Under the artistic direction of Ryan T. Smith and Wendy Rein, the company’s nuanced, charged dances pose questions ranging from the broadly social to the intimately personal. SF Chronicle described the company as "witty, whip-smart, and beautiful to watch." Critical Dance called RAWdance a "rare treasure" that "combines choreographic excellence, innovative structures, groundbreaking concepts and impeccable performances." Founded in San Francisco in 2004 by Smith and Rein, the company grew to include Wong as a third Artistic Director in 2019, while also expanding to two locations - New York’s Hudson Valley as well as its home base in San Francisco.
