We are kicking off 2022 Open Enrollment Season for Medicare in Lyon County, Kansas!
What we need:
If you are already a SHICK certified counselor in Kansas who could take appointments, please contact us as soon as possible to see if any of our needs match your availability! We offer phone, in person and zoom SHICK counseling sessions and you decide how you want to organize your availability.
If you would like to become a SHICK counselor, the deadlines are closing in - but we would love to talk with you about the process and make plans to loop you in as soon as possible! The certification process is challenging and we would like to support you through it. Always easier with a friend who has been on the same path!
Especially for November 2nd and 3rd, we will need volunteers to work at the reception area of our event at the Anderson Building at the Lyon County Fairgrounds. We will be serving cookies and coffee and corralling people who are waiting on their scheduled appointments with SHICK counselors. Preferably, we can switch out throughout the day so no one is has more than a short commitment. The event will be from 8 am to 5pm each of the two days. And we could also use help setting up and tearing down tables and chairs.
If you like data entry work, we can take you through the SHICK certification process that allows you to enter data in our systems about the SHICK services and outcomes. These are paper, handwritten notes from each SHICK appointment that you can pick up in batches at the Friendship Center, take them home (or use one of our computer spaces) to enter the data on your own schedule and return the paper documents for our files. These are not time critical - meaning although we have deadlines, they are manageable and you could help us knowing you're taking a vacation next week, etc. We can work with your availability!

RSVP volunteers choose how and where they want to serve, from a few hours to more than 40 hours a week. Volunteers report better health and higher quality of life by staying engaged in their community and avoiding becoming the isolation and loneliness reported by many seniors.
While many existing opportunities are available presently, we are always identifying community needs and responding with new opportunities.
We consider our volunteers to be a valuable component in the community well being, as well as having an experienced opinion on the direction of our future growth.
