Better Choices, Better Health (BCBH) is a chronic disease self-management program designed to help people learn skills to better manage their own health. This interactive six-week workshop is held in small groups of 8 to 16 participants and meets in-person at a community location once a week for two and a half hour sessions.
Each workshop is led by two volunteer leaders. As a volunteer with Sanford Health, you can use your skills to educate, motivate, and inspire others by facilitating BCBH workshops. Volunteers must participate in a virtual leader training prior to facilitating workshops. No previous teaching experience or health care background required. Personal experience living with a chronic physical or mental health condition is a plus, but not required.

Description
Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America's heartland. Headquartered in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the organization services more than one million patients and 220,000 health plan members across 250,000 square miles.
Sanford's Better Choices, Better Health program is an evidence-based workshop focused on helping individuals with chronic health conditions take control of their life. The program, originally developed at Stanford University, is available to community members throughout the Sanford footprint at no charge. During the workshop, participants learn a variety of self-management tools and are encouraged to use the tools that work best for them. The workshop also provides a supportive environment in which participants can learn from one another and find a sense of community among others who are living with a chronic health condition. With these new tools and social support, participants are empowered to set goals and take small steps toward a healthier life.
