It is said that when a person dies a library is lost. Hospice programs are in a unique position to honor, preserve, and protect life stories and family histories. Through Homeland Hospice’s My Life, My Legacy Project we are purposefully helping patients process and preserve their one-of-a-kind stories and life lessons.
The My Life, My Legacy volunteer will make 3-5 visits with the patient and/or family members to gather information on the patient’s life. After meeting with the patient, the volunteer writes the patient’s story. The story is then provided to the Volunteer Coordinator who formats, prints, and binds the information. The volunteer is then able to deliver the finished product to the patient and family.
Volunteers must be able to listen closely, record notes that capture the information and have good writing skills. Guidance and sample questions are provided.
Volunteers are required to complete an Orientation which can be done as a self-study in the comfort of your own home and at your own pace. Volunteers also have a background check completed and a 2-step PPD (TB) Test. Any costs are covered by Homeland Hospice.
