Are you interested in inspiring guests of all ages about animals, our environment, and the
importance of conservation? Our Zoological Ambassador Volunteers will assist the Zoological
Department to connect with guests through engaging educational programs by working alongside our
vast collection of animal ambassadors. Volunteers will also complete behavioral studies on numerous
animals within the care of the EcoTarium to help enhance the welfare for our animals! Lastly, volunteers
have the opportunity to experience life as an animal keeper by working besides the Zoological staff. The
Zoological Ambassador Volunteer program has six-month maximum commitment to allow others to
have an opportunity to volunteer.
Responsibilities:

  • Present educational programs with numerous animal ambassadors
  • Assist with keeper chats in front of the EcoTarium’s animal habitats
  • Complete ethograms (behavioral studies) on a wide variety of species cared for by the EcoTarium’s Zoological Department’s staff
  • Provide a high level of care for a selection of our animal ambassadors
  • Respect required uniform/dress code
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
* Must be at least 18 years of age
* Ability to volunteer at least once a week from 8:00am-12:00pm
* Desire to educate guests of all ages about animals and their natural environments
* Eagerness to learn about and engage in multiple facets of the animal care field including, but not
limited to animal husbandry, enrichment, training, handling, and record keeping
* Must have excellent communication skills to ensure proper communication with guests and with
Zoological staff
* Pass CORI/SORI background checks according to EcoTarium’s guidelines
Experience:
* Experience working with animals is preferred but not required
* Experience with public speaking is preferred but not required

The EcoTarium museum of science and nature in Worcester, Massachusetts, offers an indoor-outdoor experience to visitors of all ages. Guests are encouraged to explore three floors of indoor interactive exhibits, live animal habitats, daily Science Discovery programs, hikes through forest and meadow nature trails, outdoor imaginative play, and a train ride (seasonal) around the 45+ acre campus.
