Recruiting Organization: Girls Empowerment Network

Girls Empowerment Network is seeking a Central Texas Program Capacity Building AmeriCorps VISTA. This position is designed to increase the capacity for all three tracks within the Program Department: 1) Service, 2) Advancement, and 3) Impact. This position is supervised by a Program Manager. The Service track typically has goals based on 1) the number of girls served and 2) the number of girls retained. The Advancement track typically has goals such as 1) fee-for-service revenue and 2) quality relationships with partners. The Impact track typically has goals such as 1) programs providing girls with statistically significant gains in the Six Cs and 2) grant-specific measures. Goals are subject to change as the programs evolve.

AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a service-based program that requires commitment and financial sacrifice. Much like a fellowship program, AmeriCorps VISTA members at Girls Empowerment Network gain tremendous professional development and individualized future career plan development with access to education benefits. AmeriCorps VISTA members are employed by the federal government and placed at Girls Empowerment Network to support agency efforts to build capacity and sustainability.

Highlighted position responsibilities:

  • The Program Capacity Building AmeriCorps VISTA will work closely with team members on building and expanding programs to increase capacity, equity, and accessibility. Programs include:
  • Spark Kits (Self-guided activities and virtual access to girl experts) • Girl Connect (School-based program)
  • Spark Change Day (Activism Event)
  • Professional Development and Parent/Guardian Workshops
  • Summer Programming (CAMP and Pathfinder Leadership Summit)

Remote Work

  • Develop and implement strategies to increase efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and scalability of programs.
  • Develop and implement an outreach and engagement plan to increase the number of girls served and retained.
  • Maintain excellent customer service and positive relationships with program partners, staff, girls, and key stakeholders.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings, department meetings, department huddles, and biweekly supervision.
  • Assist the Program Director with advancement strategies to increase fee-for-service partnerships with schools and organizations including outreach for recruitment of new partnerships and engaging current partners.
  • Assist program department with various administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings, department meeting notes and announcements, weekly goal & KPI reports, and fee-for-service contracts.
  • Assist with budgeting of program supplies and placing supply orders.
  • Assist with curriculum development and logistical details of programs as needed.
  • Assist in ongoing outreach and marketing efforts to increase Girls Empowerment Network's visibility.
  • Program data entry and tracking through Salesforce.

In-Office Work

  • Prepare supplies and assist with creating efficient assembly lines for Spark Kits.
  • Assemble Spark Kits.
  • Accept large supply packages as needed.
  • Staff volunteer Spark Kit decorating drop-offs/pick-ups.
  • Staff volunteer Spark Kit delivery days.

Position Details:

The VISTA living allowance/stipend rate is calibrated around the Federal Poverty Level in the region of service. The amount provided for the Travis County AmeriCorps VISTA living allowance/stipend is 17,600 annually.

  • AmeriCorps VISTA program benefits include a choice of Education Award or End of Service Stipend, Childcare assistance if eligible, health coverage, and a relocation allowance.
  • Full time (40 hours a week). Most hours will fall Monday-Friday during the 9 am and 6 pm time frame, however, occasional evening and weekend work will be required as needed for community engagement events.
  • Work will be primarily based virtually until further notice. However, this position is based at the Girls Empowerment Network office at either our Central Texas office (2801 S. IH 35, Suite 110, Austin, Texas) or our Houston office (4660 Beechnut Street, Suite 102, Houston, Texas). Occasional travel for agency events will be required (mileage reimbursed at the federal recommended level.)

Qualifications and Position requirements:

  • Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Girls Empowerment Network.
  • Degree or working towards a degree in non-profit management, business, social work, counseling, family & child development, or related field.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass a required background check.
  • Goal-oriented, flexible, and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Strategic and creative thinker.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer literacy in general Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Personal commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and anti-racist practices.

Qualifications Requirements

  • High level of integrity, personal motivation, ethics, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Comfort working on both the big picture, strategic activities alongside managing day-to-day tasks and strong attention to detail.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
  • Must be team-oriented and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working at a non-profit preferred.
  • Salesforce or other CRM experience preferred.
