Recruiting Organization: Girls Empowerment Network

Girls Empowerment Network is seeking a Marketing and Communications AmeriCorps VISTA member who will support the Marketing Manager. The Marketing and Communications VISTA will engage with staff, volunteers, strategic partners, school champions, and girls in order to learn the necessary information to best tell the story of our organization according to our strategic plan. This position will help create content for the website and social media channels, create graphic design materials, author monthly e-newsletters for multiple audiences, and write content for our blog. The Marketing and Communications VISTA will support digital and print advertising campaigns through social media and paid publications to promote programming and honor funders and volunteers.

AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a service-based program that requires commitment and financial sacrifice. Much like a fellowship program, AmeriCorps VISTA members at Girls Empowerment Network gain tremendous professional development and individualized future career plan development with access to education benefits. AmeriCorps VISTA members are employed by the federal government and placed at Girls Empowerment Network to support agency efforts to build capacity and sustainability.

  • Fundraising and volunteer initiatives
  • Support in execution of marketing strategy in line with strategic objectives.
  • Support in coordinating marketing campaigns and fundraising activities.
  • Create social media content such as long format videos, short-format videos, graphics, blogs, and gifs to be utilized digitally
  • Grow agency visibility and engagement on Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok, and YouTube.
  • Engage with key external organizations, influencers, and supporters digitally to create a pipeline for new region-specific digital marketing.
  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of digital marketing communications and provide reports analyzing digital engagement and impact
  • Design and publish all marketing materials in line with marketing plans.
  • Collect stories from members of our network, including volunteers, donors, and program participants, to inform marketing campaigns.
  • Work collaboratively with the development department to research and implement best practices for digital fundraising.
  • Create agency best practices and implement a process and training on how to engage and collaborate with other departments internally through ASANA.
  • Create a database of external stakeholders that use our branding on their digital platforms and update with new branding.
  • Analyze all backlinks with external websites, identify needs, and collaborate to update necessary branding.
  • Evaluate new ways via digital marketing to reach new audiences or recapture the current audiences.
  • Monitor online brand reputation and make recommendations as needed regarding digital presence
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Details:

The AmeriCorps VISTA living allowance/stipend rate is calibrated around the Federal Poverty Level in the region of service. The amount provided for a Travis County AmeriCorps VISTA member living allowance/stipend is $17,600 annually and Houston positions (Harris County) $17,600 annually.

  • AmeriCorps VISTA program benefits include a choice of Education Award or End of Service Stipend, Childcare assistance if eligible, health coverage, and a relocation allowance.
  • Full time (40 hours a week). Most hours will fall Monday-Friday during the 9 am and 6 pm time frame, however, occasional evening and weekend work will be required as needed for community engagement events.
  • Work will be primarily based virtually until further notice. However, this position is based at the Girls Empowerment Network office at either our Central Texas office (2801 S. IH 35, Suite 110, Austin, Texas) or our Houston office (4660 Beechnut Street, Suite 102, Houston, Texas). Occasional travel for agency events will be required (mileage reimbursed at the federal recommended level.)
  • Start date: August 29, 2022.
  • The position sits within the Mobilizing Communities department.

Qualifications and Position requirements:

  • Strong personal alignment with and a commitment to the mission of Girls Empowerment Network.
  • 1+ years experience in event planning, volunteer management, communications, and/or movement building.
  • A leader with a can-do spirit and a natural ability to build positive relationships with other people very quickly.
  • Personal commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and anti-racist practices.
  • High level of integrity, personal motivation, ethics, and cultural sensitivity.
  • A self-starter who embraces new challenges and is internally motivated to succeed.
  • Strong communication skills, both in-person and through email.
  • Comfortable with and skilled in:

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Girls Empowerment Network.
  • Degree or working towards a degree in non-profit management, business, marketing, communications, public relations, advertising, graphic design, or related field.
  • Goal-oriented, flexible, and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Must be team-oriented and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strategic and creative thinker.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite software.
  • Personal commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and anti-racist practices.

Preferred Skills and Personal Attributes

  • High level of integrity, personal motivation, ethics, and cultural sensitivity
  • Comfort working on both the big picture, strategic activities alongside managing day-to-day tasks and strong attention to detail
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
  • Experience working at a non-profit preferred
  • Salesforce or other CRM experience preferred
  • Ability to photograph events and programs for social media, website, and marketing campaigns/publications
