ORGANIZATION: Idealist.org

Recruiting Organization: Flatbush Cats

FLATBUSH CATS BACKGROUND:

Tens of thousands of cats live on the streets in Brooklyn - alone, hungry, and needing medical attention. Flatbush Cats, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is on a mission to end the cat overpopulation crisis in Brooklyn and beyond once and for all, by providing the resources and support that our rescue/TNR (trap- neuter- return) volunteers and community members need to give cats a better life.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

Flatbush Cats is seeking a fully-remote Data Visualization volunteer to create an effective heat map using the data we have collected over the past few years. The map will help us visualize and use the data to identify trends related to TNR service request volume and locations, note locations where we need to recruit more volunteers, allow volunteers to independently sign up for open projects near them, and better track our progress over time. The volunteer would work closely (and remotely) on this project with our Community Cats Program Manager.

BENEFITS OF VOLUNTEERING IN THIS ROLE

You will be helping our active Community Cats Program work even more effectively and efficiently by helping us turn data into action. Visualizing our work via a heat map will help us make better decisions about resource allocation, improve our volunteers' experience, enable more cats to be helped, and show potential donors our strategic, organized, data-driven approach. You would be volunteering with a dedicated team of animal lovers and using your skills to help us to reduce the number of cats being born on the streets.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE NEEDED:

Some coding experience, familiarity with Google maps and Airtable, or similar programs. Good collaboration skills, reliable, organized, and detail-oriented. Ability to treat all people with respect, compassion and professionalism.

Flatbush Cats believes that diversity and inclusion among our teammates is critical to our success in achieving our Mission and Vision. Our goal is to be a diverse organization that is representative, at all levels, of the community we serve.

We are committed to providing an environment of mutual respect where equal employment opportunities are available to all applicants and teammates without regard to race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy (including childbirth, lactation and related medical conditions), national origin, age, physical and mental disability, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information (including characteristics and testing), military and veteran status, and any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
