ORGANIZATION: VANTAGE Aging RSVP

Basic volunteer duties involved with this assignment:

  1. Give visitors information about exhibitions, such as artist, background, themes, and process. Docents will be oriented to relevant exhibition information at the beginning of each exhibition season.
  2. Lead small groups of visitors on guided tours and answer visitors' questions, as needed.
  3. Refer visitors to staff as needed, included sales inquiries.
  4. Ensure safety of the artwork, explain artwork safety procedures to visitors, as needed.

Basic volunteer qualifications involved with this assignment:

Communication skills, interest in art. (Background knowledge about art making or art history may be helpful, but not required.)

Visitors to Summit Artspace, and resident and exhibiting artists at Summit Artspace.

What is the anticipated benefit of this volunteer service to those receiving the service?

Summit Artspace public hours allow artists to interact with the public through studio space and exhibitions. Docents encourage meaningful interactions between visitors and the art. This furthers the depth of interaction between artists and the public!

What specific skills will the volunteer need?

Ability to stand or walk for a few hours at a time (with breaks as needed). Ability to communicate with visitors and staff.

Description

VANTAGE Aging promotes positive aging through a variety of programs and services for older adults. Our nonprofit organization serves 38 counties and is headquartered in Akron, Ohio. In Summit and Medina Counties, we facilitate the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) for those 55 and older who want to make a meaningful impact in the community. We also offer employment training, home care and home health aide assistance, nutrition and home-delivered meal services, alcohol and drug addiction counseling, and mental health and prevention services.
