Mission Statement

Kindred Spirits Animal Sanctuary (KSAS) is dedicated to providing end-of-life care and hospice for older, unwanted dogs, horses, and poultry in a peaceful and serene sanctuary setting, and advocating for the compassionate, dignified treatment of all living beings as they move through the aging process.

Description

Since 2002, KSAS has provided elder and hospice care for dogs, horses and poultry. KSAS accepts elderly and needy animals from our non-profit animal sanctuary partners and rescue groups throughout New Mexico. KSAS seeks to change cultural attitudes toward aging companion animals by offering our proven Wellness Care model and information to shelters and the general public. Our educational programs increase owners’ knowledge of the normal aging process of their pets and provides hands-on methods for managing aging animals’ lives. This holistic approach includes information on nutrition, veterinary care and complementary treatment modalities. We address how to prepare for final decisions on the companion animal’s death, including hospice, euthanasia and grief support. KSAS also offers guidance in planning for the pet that outlives their guardian.
Each year, KSAS cares for between 25-30 abandoned and traumatized senior dogs and since the organization’s inception and has housed, treated and nurtured more than 650 elderly dogs.
