Two girls

Join Bridges to Independence at an End of Summer Jam! We will have food, a moonbounce, school supplies, and lots of fun. The Summer Jam will be held outside by Drew Elementary School on Saturday, August 20th at 10am to 1pm. We are looking for volunteers to help hand out food and drinks, ensure the moonbounce is fun and safe, and help out at the arts and crafts table.

Alongside the festival, we will be distributing school supplies to students who need it. This will be outside in the same area. There will be multiple tables spread out with various school supplies. Volunteers will help hand out the supplies and ensure the line is moving safely. It will go from 10am to 12pm (or earlier if we run out of school supplies). After we finish, volunteers are free to enjoy the rest of the event!

About Bridges To Independence

Location:

Mission Statement

Bridges to Independence leads individuals and families out of homelessness and into stable, independent futures. We offer a continuum of aid and support for all family members, helping them attain financial security and move forward into self-sufficiency. A private, nonprofit organization, Bridges has been working with and for families experiencing homelessness since 1985, when we were founded as the Arlington-Alexandria Coalition for the Homeless.

Description

In a nutshell, "what we do" is build bridges to independence for homeless families and families at risk of becoming homeless. Our bridges - our services - strengthen these families and provide them with the stability, skills, knowledge, and community networks to become self-sufficient. We offer supports for every family member - adults and children alike. Our short-term goal is to help individual clients right now. Long-term, we aim to break the inter-generational cycle of poverty by preparing today’s struggling kids to be tomorrow’s successful adults. From housing to financial literacy, from tutoring to youth development, from life skills to career counseling, we tailor a continuum of services. Some activities are required, some are optional, and some are just plain fun.
