One-to-one mentoring to Defend the Potential of our Youth #defendpotential

Youth in the program are 7-18 years old from Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties

Volunteer Mentor Requirements:

  • Mentors are 21+ in age
  • Attend a virtual training and orientation ( orientation link)
  • Complete Volunteer Interview and background check
  • Matched for 1 Year
  • Outings with mentee (Little) 2 x month + Weekly contact
  • Match activities align with goals
  • Match Support
  • Sign-up to be a mentor at this link or go to our website bbbsdetroit.org

Match outing activities with a Little can include: Ride a Bike, play video games, play a sport, go to a museum, attend a sporting event, visit a park, eat together, take a walk, explore nature, attend a community event, build a birdhouse

Our mentors are Compassionate & Caring Adults (21+); Patient & Positive People; Open-minded & Honest Volunteers; Nonjudgmental & Dependable Friends

Our Youth (Littles) are Excited to participate; Friendly; Driven to succeed; Open to new things; Motivated to improve; Ready to excel; Looking for someone to be in their corner; Resilient; Able to communicate their safety

BBBS Activities to attend with your Little- Sport activities and events: Detroit Pistons, Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers partnership; Detroit Zoo partnership, Greenfield Village and Henry Ford Museum, Clark Park partnership; Have a video game or board game night; Annual Big Picnic; Holiday events; Donated Tickets to concerts, art exhibits, visit your local library

  • Orientation or Training
  • Go do an activity with a youth 2-3 days a month. Activities can going to the park, riding bikes, getting lunch, playing a sport, etc.
  • Be committed to seeing the same youth for at least one year. Usually outings with the youth last 1-4 hours.
