Do you enjoy working with teens ages 13-18 and want to further you skills in group work? This opportunity provides a chance to give back to the some of the most vulnerable children and their families in Atlanta. Project GRANDD families are grandparents raising their grandchildren with special needs. The biological parents are unable to care for the children due to a variety of reasons including death, illness, substance addiction, incarceration, etc.

Job description

The Teen Support Group Facilitator is responsible for facilitating a monthly support group for elementary-aged children who are being raised by their grandparents. The Children’s Group Facilitator is responsible for the development and maintenance of the group and ensures that the group meets and maintains the ISDD's standards of quality. Time commitment is 2 hours per month on the third Tuesday. Group is held at the Metropolitan Library Branch in SW Atlanta.

The Teen Group Facilitator will:

a) provide a safe, nurturing and supportive environment for teens

b) provide opportunities for teens to enhance their self-esteem and practice social skills

c) model effective non-violent problem solving and conflict resolution techniques

d) support teens and their grandparents to establish trust and positive interactions with each other

e) support teens as they work through difficult emotions such as grief, anger and loss

Desired Skills and Experience

This position requires the following skills: Group Facilitation, Cross-cultural Communication, People Skills, Relationship Building, Child Welfare, Child Care. Experience working with children required. Master’s degree in counseling or social work preferred.

Project GRANDD is a community-based support program for grandparents in the Metro Atlanta Area who are raising grandchildren or other relatives who have disabilities, chronic illness, or behavior or learning difficulties. Project GRANDD provides group educational meetings, monthly support groups, family care coordination and practical help where needed. Project GRANDD is a program of Innovative Solutions for Disadvantage & Disability (ISDD), an Atlanta-based 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2004 with the mission to promote health equity for children living in social and economic disadvantage with or are at risk for disability.

Description

Project GRANDD is the largest kinship caregiver program in the the Atlanta Metro Area, the only program serving the entire metro area and the only caregiver program in Georgia providing supportive services to grandparents raising grandchildren with developmental disabilities, chronic health conditions and learning and behavior disorders. Project GRANDD provides support groups, case management, training, education and referrals to support stable, safe and loving families. All services are provided at no charge.
