Rising Hope, Inc offers a post secondary eduction in ministry and human services to incarcerated men. This is a 2 semester program with classes offered 5 evenings or afternoons per week for 15 weeks. Our courses, including Introduction to Theology have been reviewed by the National College Credit Recommendation Service, a division the New York State Education Department. This course has been recommended for 3 credit hours. Our students are well motivated, eager to learn. We have an established curriculum and syllabi for each course which of course can be modified to some degree. Applicants need to have a Master's degree.

We are beginning a new semester in early February.

The process of application by the Department of Corrections can take two to three months so please let us know as soon as possible if you are interested in joining this challenging and rewarding work.

Our program is open to students of any faith tradition or no faith tradition.

Mission Statement

The Post-Secondary Education Program in Ministry and Human Services is a college-level course of study designed to prepare men in prison for ministry and work in the helping professions while in prison and after release. The program is open to prison inmates of all (or no) faith traditions who wish to serve and minister to others' needs.

Description

Currently the Rising Hope program is offered to inmates at Fishkill, Woodbourne and Sing Sing Correctional Facilities. There are two semesters, each consisting of classes held nightly Monday-Friday for 15 weeks. In addition classes may be offered in the summer or between semesters.

Courses vary from time to time but include college writing skills, theology, ethics, counseling, sociology, Old and New Testament studies, church history and homiletics/public speaking. Volunteers need a minimum of Master's degree and must be at least 21 years of age.
