Adam’s Angels is seeking a home to continue to store and assemble bags of food for the Kitchenless. We have assembled and distributed close to 30,000 bags of nonperishable food since April 2020. The increased urgency of food for the Kitchenless was brought on by the pandemic. A needs assessment was documented in June 2021 that verified the continued need for bags of nonperishable food.

Once a week, customarily Mondays at 5:30, a group of volunteers assembles up to 300 bags of nonperishable food using 6 to 8 folding tables. The food is then distributed by a couple of volunteers over the course of the week to all the Showers of Blessing events, to Doctors Without Walls, weekly events at local parks, a weekly event in Carpinteria, and other locations where the Kitchenless congregate. This activity, from set-up to tear down, takes no more than 90 minutes.

The prepackaged, single serving, nonperishable food items have been kept at the assembly site for volunteer access. Once assembled, some bags of food not immediately taken from the facility on the assembly night, are kept at the assembly site in plastic containers. At a minimum, the total amount of storage space needed would be the footprint of 5 pallets; 1 pallet to hold the folding tables, 2 pallets to hold the purchased food, and 2 pallets to hold the assembled food in the plastic containers. Space is needed for the weekly assembly time. Ideally the storage and assembly needs would take place in the same room, but assembly could occur outside in a parking lot close by. An available bathroom is helpful to the volunteers.

Minimum storage access is needed throughout the week to drop off purchased food and pick up bins of food for delivery. We have 2 people that buy food for delivery to the storage site (Adam & Tom). We have had no more than 2 people that would pick up the bins with food for delivery (Adam & a volunteer). Food items are typically purchased weekly at Costco on the weekend and delivered to the storage site. One food item is ordered online and picked up at the Dollar Tree Store for delivery to the storage site. The delivery of this item occurs about twice a month.

We can’t thank you enough for considering the facility needs of this project.
