This VISTA opportunity will focus on the 11 Counties and 23 Cities of the Coastal Bend Council of Governments (CBCOG). CBCOG partners with the U.S. Economic Development Administration to provide region-wide strategic economic development planning. There is a flexible start date from June-August 2022 and telework may be permitted. The VISTA will have the opportunity to work heavily in all aspects of Regional Economic Development. The VISTA will work with the community to obtain and analyze data to improve the resiliency of the region, strategize broadband infrastructure installation, and coordinate implementation of Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) targets. This project is sponsored by the Austin Regional Office (AURO) of the Economic Development Administration (EDA) and will be directly supervised by the Coastal Bend Council of Governments in Corpus Christi, Texas. The overall EDA Mission is "to lead the federal economic development agenda by promoting innovation and competitiveness, preparing American regions for growth and success in the worldwide economy."

The VISTA member will alleviate poverty by assisting disadvantaged communities with economic development activities that will increase and retain job opportunities in the region. The VISTA will work with the Regional Resiliency Partnership (RRP) Committee to collect data such as existing building codes, current insurance rates, and existing infrastructure to identify areas that are prone to extensive storm and flood damage. The VISTA will assist the Homeland Security team to host the annual Hurricane conference and will work with the Community Outreach Coordinator to catalog existing broadband and telecom infrastructure using GIS. The VISTA will conduct outreach to stakeholders, schedule and conduct meetings, assist in developing action plans, follow up on key tasks, and track progress.
