Recruiting Organization: U.S. Economic Development Administration- Austin Office VISTA Program

This project is to update, re-vamp, and modernize Northern Oklahoma Development Authority’s (NODA) Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS). NODA partners with the U.S. Economic Development Administration to provide region-wide strategic economic development planning. There is a flexible start date from June-August 2022 and telework may be permitted. The VISTA will work with the communities to identify economic development needs, and resources to meet those needs in an effort to attract higher paying jobs and other opportunities to the region. The overall goal is to build capacity in rural, economically distressed communities to alleviate poverty, reduce unemployment, and provide a better quality of life. This project is sponsored by the Austin Regional Office (AURO) of the Economic Development Administration (EDA), and will be directly supervised by the NODA EDD in Enid, Oklahoma. The overall EDA Mission is "to lead the federal economic development agenda by promoting innovation and competitiveness, preparing American regions for growth and success in the worldwide economy." The three-year goal of this project is to make the CEDS an interactive tool on the NODA website, as well as a dynamic tool for promoting NODA’s communities and counties to increase the region’s economic vitality.

The VISTA member help will alleviate poverty by assisting disadvantaged communities with economic development activities that will increase and retain job opportunities in the region. The process will include researching economic factors and impacts to NODA’s 8-county region, which includes Alfalfa, Blaine, Garfield, Grant, Kay, Kingfisher, Major and Noble. It will involve visiting communities to gather local input, as well as organizing and attending CEDS committee meetings with NODA’s economic development team. The VISTA will work directly with community leaders, gathering in-depth information about local economic development needs to help create jobs and improve quality of life in NODA’s eight-county region. The economic development capacity built by the VISTA will provide the communities the tools to build job opportunities for community members and improve quality of life.
