Children enter foster care after suffering abuse, neglect, or abandonment. Their whole world changes overnight - new home, new caregivers, new school, new everything. This is the time they need the support of a caring adult more than ever. We need generous people, like you, to show up for them.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) are volunteers trained by Voices for Children and matched with a child or sibling group in foster care. A CASA spends quality time with the youth and learns about every aspect of their case. This allows the CASA to effectively advocate for them in court, school, medical settings, and more to ensure all of their personalized needs are being met. A CASA makes sure a child’s voice is heard.

Many children in Riverside County foster care are currently waiting for a CASA volunteer of their own. With just 10-15 hours a month, you can help a child thrive and put them on a path toward a successful future. To learn more about the role of a CASA, sign up for an online Volunteer Information Session at www.speakupnow.org/volunteer

About Voices for Children

Location:

2851 Meadow Lark Drive, San Diego, CA 92123, US

Mission Statement

Voices for Children transforms the lives of abused children in San Diego County by providing them with volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs). We believe that every child deserves a safe and permanent home, and to that end, will review and monitor every court file in the system, provide a CASA to every child in the foster care system who needs one, and advocate to improve the lives of San Diego County’s foster children.

Description

CASAs can change the trajectory of a foster child’s life. They focus on an individual child’s needs, working one-on-one with a child or set of siblings. They provide a source of consistency and stability, visiting with their case children at least once a month. CASAs gather information from files and reports and communicate with social workers, family members, school officials, and other professionals in the children’s lives. They use this information and firsthand observations to advocate for the children’s best interests in Court, as well as in other aspects of their lives, such as education, health, and living arrangements. No experience is necessary! We provide all the training you’ll need, as well as a dedicated staff supervisor to partner with you on the case. With just 10-15 hours a month, you can make a difference in the life of a foster child!
