Volunteer to Knit, Quilt or Crochet Blankets for Hospice Patients

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Brookdale Hospice Detroit

  • 2 people are interested

If you can knit, quilt or crochet- we need your help! We are looking for people to volunteer to donate their time to knit or quilt blankets for our patients on hospice services. Our hope is to give each patient a blanket made specially for them to let them know they are loved and cared for. When the patient passes away, their special blanket will be given to their family as a keepsake. This is a chance to show compassion and support to someone in their final stage of life. We can't do this without our community!

This is an opportunity for individuals or groups. Please help us to spread the word to anyone you might know who would be interested.

Mission Statement

Brookdale Senior Living's Mission Statement is: Enriching the lives of those we serve with compassion, respect, excellence and integrity. Our Philosophy of Hospice is: * providing sensitivity and support for people and their families in the final phases of a terminal illness * enabling patients to carry on an alert, pain free life and to manage other symptoms so that they may have dignity, comfort and quality * recognizing dying as a natural part of life Hospice affirms life, neither hastening nor postponing death. Hospice is about living life to the fullest with dignity and comfort. Volunteers are an integral part, and are a fully integrated component, of our Brookdale hospice teams. Volunteering is more about BEING than DOING - it's about listening and offering support to our patients - it's about helping them tell their story.

Our hospice agency in Southfield Michigan is part of Brookdale's team of 21 hospice agencies nationwide.

Our Goals of Hospice are: self-determined life closure; a natural death; safe and comfortable dying; effective grieving.

Our Hospice Principles include: treating the whole person (physical, emotional, spiritual); emphasis on quality of life, not length of life; considering the family as the unit of care.
