As an overall program, AmeriCorps members in the program provide direct, comprehensive services to those experiencing or at-risk of homelessness in order to bring those individuals under the scope of services, assist with increasing self-sufficiency in the areas of income, life skills, and employment, and assist with obtaining/maintaining employment. Members will fulfill their specific positions, based on the needs of NLSM to contribute toward this increased capacity to serve their communities more efficiently and effectively.
Compensation:
- A stipend totaling $19,000 for FT, paid bi-weekly over the course of the service year
- Upon successful completion of the term, an education award, $6,495 for FT, which can be used towards qualified student loans
- Health insurance, provided for by the program, for full time members only
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Resource Generation and Management Specialist Position will be responsible for:
- Garnering relationships with local employers to create appropriate employment opportunities for persons experiencing homelessness
- Supporting clients with job searches by utilizing search engines
- Assisting clients with resume writing, employment applications, and any additional required documents for employment
- Providing linkages to educational and/or trade programs
- Partnering with potential Detroit and Metro Detroit employers and workforce development organizations
- Assisting clients with life skills to improve their quality of life
- Establishing a life plan for the clients that receive NLSM services
- Understanding governmental assistance programs like Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and Social Security Disability Income (SSDI)
- Becoming certified in MI-BRIDGES portal
- Maintaining the integrity of clients’ sensitive information
- Generating a monthly report(s) of their progression towards their goals
- Connecting clients with additional resources as needed
- Create materials to distribute to current and prospective clients
Desired Skills:
- Experience with data management
- Familiarity with homeless services in Detroit and/or Metro Detroit
- Familiarity with workforce development programs in Detroit and/or Metro Detroit
- Basic research skills
- Creativity ways to assist NLSM to end homelessness in Detroit and Out Wayne County
- Digitally literate in Office and Google Suite
- Resilient to overcome barriers towards program goals
- Ability to maintain a positive, cooperative, and professional demeanor with clients, partner organizations, volunteers/interns, staff, board members, donors and members of the public
- Experience and comfort working with people of diverse ethnic, religious, national origin, class, disabilities, and cultural backgrounds as well as people of all gender identities and sexual orientations
- Possess excellent written and oral communication skills, critical thinking skills and ability to work from a strengths-based, problem-solving approach to address complex situations
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and knowledge of issues involved in working with diverse populations and/or individuals who have limited English proficiency
- Possess a valid driver’s license, be able to be mobile and flexible as needed
Minimum Qualifications:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national or a lawful, permanent resident of the U.S. and provide a copy of a birth certificate, passport or permanent resident card to prove citizenship
- Have completed of some college or comparable work experience
- Must be able to complete a full term of service (one year)
- Pass the following criminal history checks in accordance with CTEH National Service Criminal History Check policy: State of Michigan, DHS Central Registry Clearance, FBI fingerprinting, and National Sex Offender Registry
- Have a car or can arrange reliable transportation to and from service site, multiple mandatory training sessions in Lansing, and travel on behalf of site
- Possess proficiency with word processing software and email
- Be able to interact respectfully with individuals from diverse socio-economic backgrounds
