Job Title:Tutor

Location

The Tutor will work out of a current Literacy Action site and at designated events and activities as identified by the Volunteer Coordinator or LAI staff.

Responsibilities

We are looking for Tutors who are open-minded and persistent. You will be working with adults from various backgrounds, so you must be mindful of how you treat others. Your body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice are important. At Literacy Action we work as a team, so do not be afraid to ask for help.

  • Must encourage students learning progression
  • Must be computer literate and willing to use a variety of instructional methods, techniques, and software.
  • Create and maintain positive relationship with students and staff members
  • Need to be able to adapt to changes in work environment
  • Conform to regular, timely attendance requirements at the assigned service site
  • Communicate with management team to provide feedback on student progress

Reports To

The tutor will report to and communicate with the Teacher and Volunteer Coordinator.

Time Commitment:

Must be available at least once a week for 8 weeks.

Qualifications:

Must be patient, encouraging and comfortable working with adults from diverse backgrounds, many of whom have limited English or Reading proficiency. Particularly in need of tutors familiar with Digital Literacy, Reading, and Math. Ideal candidates are passionate about the students and helping them reach their academic goal. Must be 18 years or older.

LAI provides free classes for adults who need to improve their literacy and workplace skills. The program helps students reach their potential through learning basic and essential reading, writing, critical-thinking, math, computer, job readiness, and academic skills necessary to master the GED tests.
