The events of 9/11 inspired Americans to step up in unity and community volunteerism. Annually and nationwide, #911 Day commemorates the events of 9/11 with a National Service Day. The Knoxville community will be recognizing this day on Friday, September 9th with the "2022 Senior Safety Summit."

From 8:30am to 12:15am, AmeriCorps Seniors and CAC's Office on Aging will host this annual summit at O'Connor Senior Center. The safety topic this year is financial safety. We will have speakers, a panel discussion, and vendors representing the Financial, Law Enforcement, Legal, and Technology sectors. Discussions will include identity theft, scams, and other financial concerns for seniors.

We will also have a service activity during the morning for participants to write notes of encouragement. These will be distributed later to lonely or isolated seniors in Knox County and at senior living facilities.

This event is free but registering in advance is required - indicate interest through Volunteer Match or contact us at rsvp@knoxseniors.org to attend.
