VIVE Saturday Kitchen Volunteer
VIVE has a significant need for volunteers to assist in meal prep and service in our kitchen at Vive Shelter for Saturday Lunch and Dinner.
Duties:
Food is healing! Residents at Vive go through long, difficult journeys to finally end up claiming asylum in Buffalo. When they arrive they need a moment to recharge, find safety, while being both figuratively & literally fed. Our kitchen volunteers ensure we share culturally relevant nourishment with the families staying at the shelter. Volunteers work with a resident-led team who help guide hospitality for their peers. Duties include working with a team of multi-lingual, multi-national residents to help prepare and serve meals.
Who you'll work with:
Vive's Kitchen Managers and Hospitality Team along with residents staying at Vive.
Minimum time commitment:
Once a week on an ongoing basis is ideal. 1-2 times a month works too! We serve 3 meals a day every day 365 days a year so there's always help to give.
Requirements (other than COVID vaccination):
Comfortable taking direction from the kitchen managers for safe meal prep. Masks worn at all times inside facility.
People with the following skills/experience would be great here:
Passionate about cooking. No need for previous experience cooking for large groups. Interest in sharing cultures with people different from you. Conversational fluency in a language other than English is great but not required at all.
Schedule:
Meal prep and service happens in shifts. Lunch is daily and prep starts around 10 a.m. and goes until about 12:30 p.m. Dinner goes from 3-6 p.m. Those who serve would be welcome to join for the meal.

We actively engage a very diverse staff that represents the ethnicities we serve in order to form a bridge of trust with Buffalo's many communities. Our current volunteer opportunities include: Priscilla Project of Buffalo, Vive, and Spiritual CareVolunteers bring critical energy, skill, time, and resources to Jericho Road. Through meaningful opportunities, we are sharing Jesus’ love in tangible ways, helping our neighbors to overcome the barriers of poverty they face, and participating in mutual transformation.
