We're looking for Fall Law Clerks to manage cases and work directly with clients. We anticipate the work being very challenging, risky, and rewarding for you. Day-to-day work includes negotiating with adverse counsel, meeting clients, drafting demand letters, and researching the relevant law. We are a fast-paced, high-volume office and we guarantee that you will not ever be bored.
We each are looking for law clerks in the following practice groups: housing, family, civil, employment/real property, and litigation/small claims. In your cover letter, you should indicate your preferred practice group (and if they are strong or soft preferences).
If you want to become a top direct service attorney, then this could be the right opportunity for you. We value students who are passionate about access to civil justice, self-motivated, have strong client service skills, and can manage their time very effectively.
The law belongs to all of us.
Qualifications:
- Must be a current law student
- Bay Area candidates preferred
- The Immigration practice area requires Spanish speaking
- The Family Law practice area prefers Spanish, but not required
- 2L+ preferred

Mission Statement
Open Door Legal is pioneering universal access to civil legal representation and showing that when everyone has access to the law, poverty can be dramatically reduced.
Description
"It always seems impossible until it’s done." - Nelson Mandela
We believe that even the biggest problems can be broken down into small, achievable steps. Poverty and access to justice are part of the same problem. And to solve this, we just need to discover what the steps are.
At Open Door Legal, we’re pioneering the country’s first system of universal access to civil legal representation to dramatically reduce poverty and prove that the law really can belong to all of us.
To achieve this ambitious goal, we’ve created an award-winning and best-in-class legal aid organization full of passionate, dynamic, gritty, quixotic, and team-oriented people.
We believe that injustice is the heart of poverty and we're looking for someone to join us in having a systemic impact on how we, as a society, ensure justice for all.
