Position: MENTOR - West Orange Habitat for Humanity
Department: Homeowner Services Committee
Supervision: Executive Director
Status: Volunteer Position
Service 8 - 12 months in duration

In cooperation with the Homeowner Service Committee, the MENTOR is one of two mentors
responsible for mentoring an assigned Homebuyer from the date of selection through closing and
dedication of the Homebuyer’s home. Reporting through the committee, the Mentor is responsible for
communication between the Homebuyer and West Orange Habitat for Humanity ("WOHFH") to
increase their awareness of the organization and positively mentor them through their journey to
complete requirements and serve as a resource to educate, inspire and encourage their progress in
completing goals.

* Ensure a positive and welcoming relationship between West Orange Habitat for Humanity, the
Homeowner Services Committee and the assigned Homebuyer ensure they have an understanding
of the homeownership program toward successful completion of requirements for homeownership.
* Serve as the connection to the assigned Homebuyer for notification of events, opportunities,
progress, completion, questions, and answers.
* Attendance at monthly Homeowner Services meetings to report on the progress of the Homebuyer
and attendance with the Homebuyer at Habitat events including special events,
dedications/groundbreakings, and fundraising events as available. In addition, offering to accompany
Homebuyer to other events/meetings as necessary.
* Regular, dependable attendance with a positive team approach is required.
* Complete training and access Habitat resources for education and clarification.

* Dedication to investing time and energy needed to successfully mentor a new Homebuyer through
their journey - 8 months to 1 year.
* Experience working successfully with groups and individuals.
* Experience with individuals of varied backgrounds, cultures, and language
* An understanding and patient spirit while leading the effort to positively meet deadlines and
* Experience with accessing web tools and online resources.
* Strong writing, oral presentation, and interpersonal skills.
