ORGANIZATION: SPAACES Foundation

Image_202301071028

SPAACES is an innovative and fast growing not-for-profit that fosters artistic excellence and nurtures a vibrant arts community in Sarasota - providing affordable artist studios, presenting emerging professional artists in gallery exhibitions, promoting arts education and discourse, and collaborating with the surrounding residential and creative community. SPAACES is deeply committed to advancing the cause of art and its importance to Sarasota’s culture. Strategic initiatives of the organization include significantly growing awareness of SPAACES, expanding the number of artist studios, enhancing fundraising expertise, and strengthening infrastructure and operations.

We are transitioning from a 'friends & family’ board to a working board - which actively develops and executes the organization’s strategic initiatives. The SPAACES Board Member is responsible for: being a champion of the organization in the community; applying professional knowledge and expertise to the organization; supporting the financial health of the organization through personal giving and networking; and attending quarterly board meetings in an engaged and thoughtful way. Each member serves on at least one committee that is aligned with expertise and interest level.

A candidate for a Board Member must bring a passion for the arts. He/she/they will bring relevant professional experience of at least 5 years (having experience in the law is highly valued). Being able to meet the requirements of the board (fundraising/giving, meeting attendance, committee participation) are essential. The candidate will be engaged; excited to participate in and proactively add value to the organization and its growth; highly responsive to peer board members and staff; and respectful and appreciative of others. Having a strong network in the Sarasota area and willingly introducing SPAACES to it are important.
