Basic volunteer duties involved with this assignment:
- Volunteers will help sort jewelry for ACCESS The Jewelry Box fundraiser. The agency gathers donations of costume jewelry from different members of the community throughout the year and sells them at the event (we end up with approximately 25,000 pieces of jewelry!).
- Volunteers will be given instructions, supplies, and jewelry to sort according to ACCESS guidelines.
Basic volunteer qualifications involved with this assignment: Suitable for adults and children ages 10 and up. You must come to the shelter to pick up your sorting kit and return it upon completion.
Who will be served by this assignment?The ACCESS Jewelry Box Event is our largest annual fundraiser. The proceeds from each piece of jewelry sold supports the women and children staying in our shelter.
What is the anticipated benefit of this volunteer service to those receiving the service?This volunteer helps with the tremendous amount of preparation work that goes into this fundraiser! It is a great activity to keep busy, and is essential for the success of our fundraiser. It is also fun to see all of the different treasures!
What specific skills will the volunteer need?Organizing. Must have patience and dexterity in your fingers to untangle jewelry, pin earrings to display cards, etc. (You may think I am kidding, but they can get VERY tangled!)

VANTAGE Aging promotes positive aging through a variety of programs and services for older adults. Our nonprofit organization serves 38 counties and is headquartered in Akron, Ohio. In Summit and Medina Counties, we facilitate the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) for those 55 and older who want to make a meaningful impact in the community. We also offer employment training, home care and home health aide assistance, nutrition and home-delivered meal services, alcohol and drug addiction counseling, and mental health and prevention services.
