ORGANIZATION: ASD Adult Achievement Center

We are looking for a volunteer to help facilitate both the Self Advocacy Program and the Career Success Shop Programs. The Self Advocacy Program is designed to help young adults with autism develop the skills needed to better communicate their strengths, abilities, interests and needs when interviewing or applying for school. The participants will learn about disability self-awareness, communication skills, and understanding personal rights. This class starts on Sept. 12, 2022, and continues through November 14th, and meets on Mondays from 1:30 to 3:30.

The Career Success Shop is designed to help young adults with autism to understand their skills, interests and values as they think about their future. They will learn how to create a resume and cover letter, how to apply for a job, how to manage their employer contacts, how to navigate public transportation and how to interview for a job. This Program starts September 14 and continues through November 16, and meets on Wednesdays from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm.

This position would be perfect for retired teachers or college students who are looking at teaching careers. Volunteers must be comfortable working with young adults with high functioning autism.

Description

ASD Adult Achievement Center is a non-profit provider of services for individuals with ASD (autism spectrum disorder). Founded in 2016, ASD Achievement serves adults 18 and over who desire greater independence. ASD Achievement provides training and education in the areas of independent life skills, social skills, executive function skills and job readiness skills to Central Florida residents.
