The Amelia Island Book Festival is seeking a Chairperson to oversee our Festival Gala which takes place in February. Responsibilities include the planning and coordination of the Festival (February) Celebrity Author Gala and Live Auction. The Chair will be the Project Lead/Focal Point for the execution of the event and will be supported by a team of Gala Volunteers. We have the venue under contract, the date (Feb 17th), and the Celebrity Authors committed. The Chair will manage the event and work with our Volunteer Coordinator to recruit volunteers to oversee setup, guest check-in, check-out, and tear-down. Other duties include:

- Identify and recruit the Master of Ceremonies for the event.
- Work with the Tech/Ticketing Team to understand attendance.
- Coordinate with the Ritz Carlton Events/Food and Beverage Team.
- Work with the Auction Chair, who will manage the Silent Auction, which is a part of this event.
- On the day of the event, be present and visible as the AIBF Gala Point of Contact.

The event will follow COVID-19 social distancing guidelines as suggested by the CDC.

Our mission is to promote lifelong learning for people of all ages within Nassau County. We nurture an appreciation for literacy by providing quality events featuring Local and New York Times Best Selling Authors, essay contests, scholarships and much more!

Description

We were founded in 2001. Our signature event, the Award-Winning Authors in Schools Program brings authors into every school in Nassau County to engage and inspire students from pre-kindergarten through high school. This 360-degree, impactful learning experience is lauded by educators.

Here is what the Amelia Island Book Festival has accomplished during our first 20 years:

  • Invested over $2M in Nassau County Literacy

  • Brought over 1500 authors and over 100 New York Times Best Selling authors to Nassau County as part of the festival

  • Distributed over 100,000 books to Nassau County students

  • Reviewed over 1,200 student short story and scholarship submissions

  • Published over 300 short stories

  • Awarded annual College Scholarships
