Volunteering at Rose Haven allows nurses to give back to the community, gain new problem-solving techniques, network with others, and acquire leadership experience. Nurses at Rose Haven may assist guests with their medical needs by using motivational interviewing and trauma-informed care. Nurses must be patient-centered and culturally competent in order to serve Rose Haven effectively. Nurses can do evaluations, administer first aid and more in-depth care, and make referrals for more care. These are also opportunities to further our guests’ health literacy. Therefore we educate and provide supplies that help combat different challenges like how to keep hydrated, wound cleaning tips, and public health news. Nurses will spend time in all areas of patient care, including wound care, blood pressure checks, basic first aid and advising, and foot soaks.
Rose Haven serves women, children, and marginalized genders experiencing poverty and homelessness in Portland. Our guests have been directly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, as many social service agencies have been forced to close their doors. We have remained open to provide meals, showers and restrooms, advocacy, mailboxes and phones, financial assistance, and essential supplies.

Mission Statement
Our Vision: A community where everyone has safety, stability, love, health and home. Our Mission: To provide day shelter, resources, emotional support and community connections to women, children and marginalized genders experiencing homelessness and poverty.
Description
Safety, Resources and Community:
Rose Haven is a day shelter and community center in Portland OR serving women, children and marginalized genders experiencing poverty, trauma and intersecting issues. Service hours are Monday - Friday from 9:00-12:00 and Tuesday - Thursday from 1:00-4:00; volunteer opportunities are generally available from 8:30-4:00.
Rose Haven is a low-barrier agency that exists not to just meet basic needs, but to nurture souls and improve the emotional, mental and physical well-being of our guests and our community as a whole. We understand our agency exists within larger systems of oppression, and we seek to disrupt those structures through radical hospitality, advocacy on an individual and community level, and meaningful connections to resources. Recognizing the isolation and loneliness that homelessness can create, we work to hold a space where all guests can connect, have voice and be empowered.
