ORGANIZATION: VANTAGE Aging RSVP

Basic volunteer duties involved with this assignment:

  1. Assist animal care staff by cleaning up cat cages and cat rooms
  2. Socialize cats and enrich them by petting, passing out toys, brushing, etc., in cages
  3. Feed cats and help with dishes and laundry as needed

Basic volunteer qualifications involved with this assignment:

Must attend Volunteer Orientation and complete Cat Care 101 Virtual Training and Cat Care 102

What is the anticipated benefit of this volunteer service to those receiving the service?

Providing comfort to cats at the HSSC and making them more adoptable is rewarding to volunteers in this role as they are impacting the lives of the animals

What specific skills will the volunteer need?

  1. Must be able to lift 15+ lbs, bend, and stand during a 2+ hour shift
  2. Must be able to read important cage instructions and follow directions
  3. Must be able to work independently

Additional information:

  • There is a feeding shift at 7:30 am and 1:30 pm daily for both dogs and cats.
  • Humane Society is looking for volunteers to make a weekly commitment when working in either dog care or cat care.

Description

VANTAGE Aging promotes positive aging through a variety of programs and services for older adults. Our nonprofit organization serves 38 counties and is headquartered in Akron, Ohio. In Summit and Medina Counties, we facilitate the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) for those 55 and older who want to make a meaningful impact in the community. We also offer employment training, home care and home health aide assistance, nutrition and home-delivered meal services, alcohol and drug addiction counseling, and mental health and prevention services.
