826 Boston is a nonprofit writing, tutoring, and publishing organization where students in grades K-12 and beyond can share their stories, amplify their voices, and develop as leaders in school and in life. The college essay is a powerful vehicle for students to use their voices to distinguish themselves to an admissions committee. College essay assistance doesn’t just increase the chances that a student will be admitted to college. The process equips students to tell their own story and confers a lifelong lesson in agency, self-advocacy, and confidence. Volunteers consistently report that the process is a memorable and meaningful experience. Students report that having a sounding board and feedback on their essay increases their confidence.

What it's like:
● WHO: Volunteer tutors work one-on-one with high school students.
● WHAT: Students complete their time with tutors having moved their essay forward-to
an outline, rough draft, or final draft. Volunteer shifts include a tutor training on the
day’s lesson.
● WHEN: We will be meeting with the same students three times. Volunteers are welcome to sign up and attend as many as shifts they are available for.
○ Thursday, August 4, August 11, and August 18, 9:30-11:45 AM
