What we're looking for
LWVSKC is offering a paid internship with our Voter Services Team lasting from August 2022 to February 2023. The intern will develop a survey for local students to help us learn about their needs as voters and civics educational experience. This is the first stage of a long-term voter outreach effort related to development of a youth-focused voter education, voter engagement, and education efforts; specifically geared toward increasing voter engagement, confidence, and turnout.
Responsibilities
The internship requires a commitment of 5-10 hours per week from August 15th 2022 through mid-February 2023.
A stipend of $750 is available for the internship, with half dispersed at the beginning and the remainder at the internship’s end. Students eligible for course credit will receive support meeting their requirements of their educational institution.
- Research and prepare survey to assess most pressing needs of youth voters and educators in King County
- Attend weekly online progress meetings
- Draft social media and other marketing content for survey distribution to maximize participation
- Collaborate with league members and staff
- Project-related administrative tasks as necessary
- Review and summarize survey data in final report, to be presented to LWVSKC Board on 2/11/23.
Anticipated timeline of project:
- August - Intern welcome and orientation
- September - Survey development
- October - Finalizing survey and creating distribution list
- November - Survey distribution
- December - January reviewing results and creating report
- February - Presentation of report at 2/11/23 meeting of the Board of Directors
Qualifications
- Interest in civic engagement and voter advocacy
- Coursework in political science, public policy, government, communications or other related fields
- Organized, punctual, and self-directed; Detail-oriented, independent worker
- Research and analytical skills
- Strong writing, editing and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and digital media skills
- Experience coordinating events a plus
- Comfortable developing relationships with youth voters and stakeholders
- Team players who work in a highly collaborative environment
- Able to commit to the nonpartisan policy of the League

The League of Women Voters of Seattle-King County is a nonprofit, nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. Formed one year after the national League of Women Voters was born out of the suffrage movement in 1920, the League of Women Voters has been at the forefront of numerous civic initiatives and accomplishments. While we do not rate or endorse political candidates, we do sponsor free, nonpartisan candidate debates and organize periodic forums on ballot issues and other important civic concerns. The League also advocates on issues such as education, transportation, land use, ethics and healthcare.
