From October 2022-February 2023, Texas resettled more than 3,000 refugees. A refugee is someone who has to flee their country because of persecution due to race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group. Many refugees spend years in the refugee pipeline, hoping to someday be able to rebuild their lives in a new country. A refugee is a legal status and eligible for certain benefits in the country they are assigned to by national resettlement agencies. Austin has been one of the most welcoming cities for refugees in the U.S, and with your help, we can continue to support refugees who are trying to rebuild their lives here. As part of Salaam Neighbors, you will help in the following ways:

-Support navigating U.S bureaucracy(Healthcare, social services, employment)

-Enrollment in ESL, continuing education, K-12

-Finding affordable housing

-Exploring Austin
