ORGANIZATION: Queens Community House

When you become a friendly visitor, you give yourself and your older friend the opportunity to begin a mutually-rewarding relationship through common interests and experiences. The program also aims to reduce isolation and loneliness amongst seniors in our neighborhoods and communities.

Queens Community House's Friendly Visiting Program for Isolated Older Adults is in need of a friendly visiting volunteer to provide weekly visits to an older adult living in Corona, Queens. The older adult participant is well read and enjoys discussing technology, science, and psychology. He also enjoys watching concerts and shows on Youtube. He is Jewish and would prefer to spend time with a volunteer of the same faith and discuss Jewish history and religion. Volunteer must speak Russian.

If interested in volunteering, email us at stornow@qchnyc.org or call us at 347-356-5794.

Mission Statement

Queens Community House provides individuals and families with the tools to enrich their lives and build healthy, inclusive communities.

Description

Queens Community House (QCH) is a multi-site, multi-service settlement house that serves the diverse neighborhoods of Queens. We serve residents of all ages, races, faiths, and ethnicities while supporting the viability of the borough as a whole.

QCH was formed in 1975 (as Forest Hills Community House) to help heal the wounds of a neighborhood conflict. Over four decades, our reach and breadth have grown; today we offer a broad network of comprehensive services at 25 program sites in 11 different neighborhoods in Queens, allowing us to impact individuals, families, and entire communities.
