Make a difference in a young person's future! Helping Offenders Prosper Through Employment (HOPE Mentoring) at Indiana University is recruiting potential undergraduates to serve as mentors. HOPE Mentoring’s main objective is to help juveniles prosper through employment and avoid recidivism. As a HOPE mentor, students will meet with their assigned mentee in one of the three state-level juvenile correctional facilities (Pendleton, Logansport, or LaPorte) each week. They will help their mentees set goals, assess their skills and interests, find employment, and build a plan to reach those goals. Ultimately, they will aim to follow the students out and continue their mentoring once their mentee is released to the community. Serving as a mentor is a one-year volunteer commitment that provides our undergraduate students with unique and hands-on experience within juvenile corrections. Mentors come from a wide array of majors, with psychology, education, criminal justice, and social work being especially popular. Mentors receive training and applications are on a rolling basis, but are eager to get students on board soon! Check out the website for more information: www.hopementoring.com
