Serve as an ambassador by welcoming visitors to the historic J. Gilbert Smith House and providing overview of the current exhibit. Docents are stationed on the porch and in the foyer, and may choose to wear a mask. As visitors arrive, the docents monitor the number of people who enter. Docents are trained on COVID-19 safety precautions, and on details about the exhibit, so they can answer questions and offer tours. We schedule two docents per 2-hour shift, Thursdays-Sundays between noon-4pm. One year commitment preferred.
In 2023, our new Permanent Exhibition will open, requiring docents in the main Museum building. This exhibition will feature high-tech, interactive elements for the public, so comfort using these elements is a plus.
We are a mid-size Museum in Los Altos, and our visitors and volunteers are very friendly. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about our exhibits and local history, and meet people of all ages, from children to seniors.
