Care and Support Intern Position Description

Association, we’re relentlessly working to change that by addressing the challenges in
front of us with speed and without limitations or boundaries. With our network of more
than 75 chapters across the country, we’re advancing world-class research, ensuring
access to gold-standard care and support, and empowering talented, mission-driven
people who make it all happen.
This unpaid intern position is responsible for supporting the chapter’s volunteer-
powered program delivery strategy, engaging with organizations to encourage
community mobilization and supporting the chapter’s other pillars as appropriate. The
intern will serve on an interdisciplinary team to increase awareness of Alzheimer’s and
Alzheimer’s Association programs and events within the community.

COMPETENCIES LEARNED
● Managing volunteer-led community programs and events, with experience in
recruitment and engagement of volunteers
● Working on a team to identify, create and support strategic partnerships
● Working with diverse populations, volunteers, staff, and external contacts to build
and maintain successful relationships
● Ability to anticipate, identify, organize and/or analyze growth opportunities
● Strong communication skills in person, print, and electronically, including verbal,
written, and interpersonal communication skills
● Planning and management skills
● Ability to support, participate in, and amplify the reach of health-focused legislative
advocacy campaigns

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Community Outreach (Programs, Events, Advocacy, Communications) (75%)
● Assist with the planning and execution of Community Forums in order to develop an
informed and community-focused plan for service delivery
● Guided by the Community Development Model, support the increased reach of
Alzheimer’s Association Common Programs with special emphasis on increasing
participation among communities that have typically had low rates of engagement
● Engage with community volunteers to expand the Alzheimer’s Association’s visibility
and programmatic reach within assigned area
● Represent the chapter as needed at community events and networking groups
● Connect members of the community with additional Association services by
proactively making referrals to Alzheimer's Association programs & free 24/7
Helpline
● Attend and assist with event committee meetings
● Support logistical efforts with Dancing Stars gala event
● Support advocacy campaign efforts on the state and federal level
● Participate in Alzheimer’s Awareness Day at the state capitol
● Support the care and support team by assisting with media outreach including
calendar announcements to the local media
● Attend virtual program team meetings and other committee meetings as needed
Community Partnerships (25%)
● Engage community partnerships and volunteer supporters in an effort to increase
the reach of the Association
● Outreach to social service agencies, service providers and congregations to identify
prospective volunteers, partnership opportunities, and other engagement options

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
● Must be enrolled at a college or university and receive school credits.
● Work related to this role is conducted in the community at-large including the
Alzheimer’s Association office and any other locations for program delivery and
events.
● Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed for the intern
position
● Strong computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Office products, Google suite and;
experience with, or ability to rapidly learn, the Personify CRM database, volunteer
management system, and other databases.

REQUIRED TRAINING:
● Alzheimer’s Association Program Volunteer Training

SUPERVISION:
● The intern will receive weekly supervision from the Program Manager.
● The intern will also engage with other pillar leaders in the chapter.
