Volunteer spend 45 minutes a few times a quarter in a book club-style literature circle with a group of 10th or 11th graders discussing a text. All you have to do is complete the assigned reading for the meeting and come with questions and insights about the text. You can model a love of reading, critical thinking, and discussion skills.

"The beauty of the Lit Circle program is that we can come together to share insights, discuss ideas, ideals, and have fun. I look at these kids differently than I did when I first walked in the classroom. I see their depth, passion, and enthusiasm and I also see their youth, innocence and (sometimes) folly. Hopefully, when they see me they see that there is more to being an adult than wearing a suit and going to work five days a week. Hopefully."

Mission Statement

Amy Biehl High School was founded in the spirit of Amy Biehl, a young scholar dedicated to social justice and service. We graduate diverse learners and leaders who demonstrate the intellectual, social, and ethical habits to improve their communities. Our graduates are civic-minded, college-bound, and career-ready.

We’re looking for Literature Circle volunteers for the 2021-2022 school year! Literature Circles are small reading groups that meet a few times a quarter for around 45 minutes (about 12-15x a school year).

This is a great way to engage with our students and share your love of literature. Students appreciate the authentic conversations they have around texts and the connections they make with members of our community (aka you!)
