CCA Refugee Resettlement Services in need of a math tutor for our Refugee Youth Mentoring Program.
Responsibilities:
The volunteer will assist our Refugee Youth Mentoring Program clients (ages 9-17) with math homework or studying for math. Most often pre-algebra, Algebra 1 and 2 or Geometry, occasionally calculus or pre-calculus.
Eligibility:
- Must be 21+ years old
- Embrace working in a multicultural and multilingual environment
- Embrace working with people with varying proficiency in English
- Commit to meeting with each mentee for 3-6 hours/week based on availability
- Maintain access to reliable transportation (if serving in-person)
- Meet agency driver and auto insurance requirements (if transporting clients)
- Maintain a valid driver’s license
Volunteers must be fully vaccinated. Volunteers must also complete reference and background checks. Three personal or professional references must be provided. A 1.5 hour CCA Volunteer Orientation must be completed, along with a 3-hour in-person Safe Environment (VIRTUS) Training (required since there will be direct contact with minors). The VIRTUS training incorporates best practice standards for the prevention of sexual abuse of children and vulnerable adults.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working with pre/teenagers
- Knowledge of the math courses listed above
- Education background is a plus
- Bilingual (Dari) is a plus
