As a Community Outreach & Engagement Specialist, you will help identify and coordinate in conjunction with staff outreach events and activities including; attending fairs and community events, tabling booths, networking meetings and more to help connect the community with Human Biology services for external community outreach purposes to communicate the mission and purpose of the organization.

Essential Position Functions:

  • Help identify potential outreach and awareness opportunities
  • Attend community events and external meetings to represent Human Biology and the services that we offer
  • Engage community members



Requirements:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Be prepared to speak publicly before an audience if asked about services and programs.
  • Previous experience working in community engagement and outreach is desirable but not required
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills are required.
  • Must effectively prepare and present Human Biology information and services to various groups in a professional manner.
  • Work independently or with others to manage multiple tasks (transporting, setting up and taking down outreach materials, banners, tables, booths and more).
  • Represent Human Biology on various community committees, councils and task force forums with organizational partners.
  • Engage with community and voluntary groups, faith based groups and other support organizations which are likely to cover similar food desert service areas.
  • Help to raise company profile to the the wider sector
  • Identify new clients whose constituents may benefit from accessing Human Biology services.
  • Build on our established referral pathways with key groups and networks.

Community Engagement Specialists will get to widen Human Biology's impact for those in the community negatively affected by non-communicable disease. Volunteers get to connect with service-area partners and help bring awareness to our programs and other resources. Additionally, volunteers in this position get practical experience with networking, communication skills, grassroots outreach and the confidence to build stronger partnerships.

Our volunteers are highly valued members of the Human Biology team and contribute to making a significant difference in the successful execution of Human Biology's vision and mission our advocacy, awareness, and education initiatives, and helping promote social change to eradicate non-communicable illnesses in food deserts completely. Human Biology will provide milestone acknowledgements and reference letters for all volunteers who successfully complete their volunteer placement.

Mission Statement

Human Biology's focus is to drive down the incidence/prevalence rates for non-communicable disease in food deserts with the goal of turning other food deserts into flourishing epicenters for mental/physical healing using food as the primary medium. As a platform that showcases culinary medicine, our whole food plant based-centered focus taps into biomimetic sustainability as a solution for urban and natural environments.

Description

Our classes take place in community centers local to the populations which we serve. Often this includes cuisines with a whole food plant-based focus rooted in culture. Human Biology offers Vegan Nutrition Basics and Healthy Meal Prep. Here, the participants learn the basics and importance of vegan nutrition, and how to prepare healthy meals. With the help of a local Vegan Nutrition Health Coach, your community develops a healthy relationship with food!
