Paws Animal Wildlife Sanctuary, Inc. (PAWS) is a volunteer based non-profit organization focusing on wildlife education, rescue and rehabilitation. We carry rehabilitation and possession permits from the state of SC as well as USFWS. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and release orphaned or injured wildlife, and to provide educational live-animal presentations that promote peaceful coexistence with native North American wildlife. Our focus is to fill the gaps in care for animals in need in this state.

PAWS is looking for VOLUNTEERS who can come to our facility in Laurens for a few hours each week to assist in any animal care or facility maintenance projects that may occur. You will need mud boots, gloves, and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. You must be at least 18 years of age and have your own transportation. You will train with other volunteers and must be willing to commit to at least once a week.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform as assigned which may include, but not limited to, cleaning and enclosure maintenance
  • Prepare diets for the animals
  • Responsible for the daily observation of animal health and welfare
  • Provide animals with enrichment
  • Log work done and observations made following each session
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team
  • Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision
  • Exhibit good teamwork and communication skills with all team members
  • Report maintenance issues and potential safety hazards to appropriate manager
  • Perform minor repairs and improvements of enclosures
  • Follow company policies and procedures

    REQUIRED SKILLS

    • Must have some experience working with animals
    • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs
    • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills; have high energy and enthusiasm for completion of tasks; possess team building skills; and have the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
    • Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions such as extreme heat and/or rain
    • Must have the ability to work individually and with a team with or without direct supervision

After nearly 20 years of private wildlife rehabilitation, education, and rescue, PAWS, Inc was set up within the past few years to accomodate the growing needs of wildlife in this area. We hope that by expanding, we can educate more, rescue more, and rehabilitate more than we could have continued to do as individuals. Your help is greatly needed.
