Make a difference in the life of a young child and your community! United Way Monterey County is hosting the Monterey County Preschool Service Corps to provide supplemental language and literacy activities to low income preschool children who are not yet at age level in language and literacy development. AmeriCorps members will be assigned to a partner preschool classroom and will offer classroom based experiences with activities that will build vocabulary through play and interaction, letting children explore sounds of language by singing, rhyming, or reading books. These interventions will support kindergarten readiness, with the long-term goal is that children read well and independently by the end of third grade. In partnership with preschool programs county wide, members will serve in Castroville, Gonzales, Greenfield, King City, Monterey, and Salinas.
