Volunteer Driver - Madison County

ORGANIZATION: Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Madison and Marion Counties

Would you like to help your neighbor access their essential medical appointments?

We are seeking volunteers to provide transportation to community members who need help gaining access to medical appointments and the pharmacy. Volunteers use their personal vehicles.

Why become a volunteer driver?

  • Did you know finding transportation to dialysis can mean spending hundreds of dollars each week? This can make dialysis inaccessible for people with lower incomes. With our volunteer program, community members are able to receive a ride on a donation basis.
  • Did you know some medical facilities require patients have a person stay at the facility through their procedures? This can make receiving necessary procedures inaccessible for people with limited support systems or support systems who are unable to take time off work. With our volunteer program, volunteers can stay at the facility to ensure people are able to receive their necessary procedures.
  • Additionally with procedures, did you know medical facilities will not allow a patient to use public transit after procedures involving anethesia? Volunteer drivers using their personal vehicles are allowed though.
Trips are based on your availability and comfort level. If you are only available certain days of the week or have a changing schedule, we will work with your schedule. Do you only want to provide transportation in your town? We have community members who could use your help! Are you willing to drive to Des Moines? We have community members who could use your help!
