Volunteer drivers are needed on weekends and occasional weekdays to deliver meals from Nativity House Shelter to various Catholic Community Services shelter sites in Tacoma (all located relatively close to each other).

The delivery route takes approximately 1 hour to complete (2-3 stops starting at Nativity House Shelter).

Food is picked up at Nativity House at 10:30 am on weekends and at 10:15 am on weekdays.

Nativity House Kitchen provides approximately 200 meals per mealtime for people experiencing homelessness in Tacoma's Hilltop neighborhood but also serves as the primary food hub supporting the Stability Site, the Expansion Hotel and Family Housing Network. Additional meals are delivered to each of these sites to feed guests who are experiencing homelessness.

Volunteers will be delivering boxes of sandwiches and prepared meals to each of the sites on their route. Lifting is minimal (20-30 lb. food boxes) and CCS staff generally help load and unload at each stop. Volunteers will need to use their own private vehicles for food transport. Mileage is reimbursed at $0.51/mile.

Weekend Routes:

  1. The Stability Site
  2. The Expansion Hotel
Weekday Routes:
  1. The Stability Site
  2. The Expansion Hotel
  3. Family Housing Network
Please contact meganed@ccsww.org or call 253-365-4111 for more info! Visit https://ccsww.org/nativity-house-meal-transportation-driver-tacoma/ to register as a volunteer online.

Mission Statement

At Catholic Community Services we believe every child should grow up in a safe, loving and nurturing environment. The elderly should be able to live with security and dignity. A healthy family life should be affirmed and supported in our communities. Compassion, love and respect for all people, especially the poor and most vulnerable. In joining with others to change systems that oppress, discriminate or otherwise cause human suffering. Employees and volunteers should work in an environment that fosters respect, teamwork and excellence. In all of these things for all people, whatever their color, whatever language they speak or however they worship.

Description

Volunteer Services provides low-income adults (anyone 18 years old or older) who have temporary or permanent functional disabilities, including those associated with aging. The people we serve can not afford to purchase the kinds of service we provide, do not qualify for assistance from other sources and do not have family or friends available to help them. Service is provided on an as-volunteers-are-available basis. There are never any fees for the services provided.
