Help deliver food!!!
Nativity House Shelter NEEDS weekend food delivery drivers and is working to build a roster of "reserve" drivers for when our regular weekday drivers take vacation or call out sick.
Volunteer drivers are needed on Saturday mornings and occasional weekdays to deliver meals from Nativity House Shelter to various Catholic Community Services shelter sites in Tacoma (all located close to each other- 10 to 15 min. between stops).
The delivery route takes approximately 1 hour to complete but all volunteers hours are counted round trip (door to door).
Food is picked up at Nativity House at 10:30 am on Saturdays and at 10:15 am on weekdays. (There is some flexibility to those times if needed).
Volunteers deliver pre-packed boxes of sandwiches and prepared meals to each of the sites on their route. Lifting is minimal (20-30 lb. food boxes) and CCS staff can generally help load and unload at each stop.
Volunteers will need to use their own private vehicles for food transport & provide proof of valid auto insurance. Mileage is reimbursed at $0.51/mile (roundtrip) and additional auto insurance coverage is provided on top of private auto insurance.
Helpful to know:
While it is always helpful to have volunteers with trucks or SUVs, you DO NOT need a big vehicle. Everything can generally fit in a small to midsize sedan.
Weekday Route:
- The Stability Site- 1421 Puyallup Ave., Tacoma (near the Emerald Queen Casino)
- Family Housing Network Day Center- 5050 S. Tacoma Way, Tacoma, WA
Requirements:
Volunteers must be at least 21 years old, have a vehicle (and insurance), pass a background check and attend a volunteer orientation.
Covid-19: Masks are not required but are provided for those who want them. We will not ask your vaccination status. We just require that volunteers sign a Covid-19 liability waiver in order to participate.
