Recruiting Organization: Action in Africa
Who We Are
Action in Africa (AIA) is a community-based organization whose mission is to advance the economic and personal development of community members in Nakuwadde, Uganda through greater access to education and other life-changing resources.
AIA operates a thriving community center which serves over 300+ women, men, and children daily through the following programs:
- Primary School Partnership Program
- Women to Women Program
- Special Needs Program
- Secondary and University Scholarship Program
- After School Program
- Medical Outreach
- Community Library
- Adult English Classes
AIA’s 19-member strong Ugandan team is operationally and financially supported by an American 501c3 based in Aspen, Colorado, staffed by the Executive Director, an Operations Manager, and a part-time Development Director.
Where We’re Headed
AIA is currently at an exciting inflection point in its history: revenues have grown 500% over the past 5 years to $486,837 raised in 2021, and a similar growth trajectory is projected for 2022. Based on the success of the existing community center, plans are underway to begin the construction of a second community center in 2023 with expanded offerings. The board chair will be instrumental in helping plan an ambitious capital campaign in order to supplement resources already partially identified.
This is a big challenge - with big rewards.
Recognizing the challenges and increased need for accountability that rapid expansion brings, AIA is recruiting a new Board Chair who can help guide the organization through this period of growth while ensuring a solid foundation for future success. AIA’s new Board Chair will have a unique opportunity to shape the trajectory and functioning of the American 501c3 and in turn, make a meaningful impact on the community in Nakuwadde.
