Animal Help Now (AHNow) is seeking a SwiftUI Developer to add new features and improve existing features and functionality in the Pet Help and Rescue (PHaR) app. The PHaR app is available in the Apple App Store. It utilizes technologies from API / Database, Firebase, and more. For background on PHaR, see www.PHaR.org.
This position requires 4-8 hours per week. It involves working closely with our lead iOS developer, who has more than a decade of experience leading the development of iOS apps.
The iOS developers are members of the AHNow tech team. The tech team consists of developers, technology experts, a UI/UX expert, a QA team, and the organization’s executive director. The team occasionally meets online (via Zoom) for 30-60 minutes.
- Minimum Qualifications:
At least two years of iOS development experience using SwiftUI
Experience with native iOS app development and REST
GIT repository experience (GitHub)
Experience with Firebase: Firestore database, email authentication, Firebase Cloud Messaging, and Dynamic Links
Employed full time
Possess an iPhone running the latest iOS because some of the app's features can't be tested in a simulator - We'll provide more information on this opportunity to qualified applicants.

Animal Help Now (AHNow) creates apps that help animals. The org’s eponymous app provides a 911-type service for wildlife emergencies & conflicts. Each year in the U.S. billions of birds and other wild animals are killed or injured by cats & dogs, window strikes, etc. and hundreds of millions of animals are injured or killed by motor vehicles. This free app directs people who have encountered injured or distressed wildlife or are dealing with "nuisance" wildlife to the nearest, most appropriate help, 24/7. The first nationwide response system for wildlife emergencies, it provides instant access to more than 3700 wildlife helpers across the United States, including rehabilitators, rescues & hotlines, veterinarians who treat wildlife & others. AHNow provides expert guidance on how to handle domestic animal issues (lost, found, abuse, etc.).
In 2022, in the aftermath of the Marshall Fire (12/30/2021), which claimed an estimated 1,000 companion animal lives and destroyed Animal Help Now’s headquarters, the organization began development of a new app that people can use to quickly and effectively communicate with their neighbors when disasters threaten and strike. The app provides a dedicated communications channel specifically for pet rescue so people who are not home or who otherwise need help evacuating animals can quickly and easily request such help. PHaR gives pets and other dependent animals their best chance ever of surviving when disasters strike.
