Recruiting Organization: Refugees and Asylum Seekers Information Centre

About the Role:

Refugee and Asylum Seeker Information Centre (RAIC) is seeking qualified mental health practitioners to assist our Cope mental health program. Mental health practitioners will be responsible for providing one on one psychosocial support to members of the refugee and asylum seeker community in Indonesia who have been identified as requiring further assistance outside the scope of the community peer-led program. All sessions will be conducted remotely, via an online platform.

We are asking for a 6-month minimum commitment with the number of clients supported determined by availability of the practitioner. The frequency of the sessions will be at the discretion of the mental health practitioner based on their professional opinion and the needs of the individual client. Where required, translators will be provided by RAIC.

All referrals will be received through the Cope Project Coordinator.

This is a volunteer position.

Position Requirements

· Degree in mental health including, Psychology, Psychiatry, Mental Health Occupational Therapy or Mental Health Nursing.

· Professional registration in your field of practice.

· Experience in supporting refugees or people who have experienced trauma is desired but not essential.

· Access to personal computer and reliable internet access.

2. Providing specialised assistance and training that enables refugees to uplift each other and advocate for themselves.

3. Collaborating with asylum seeker and refugee communities to identify and access long-term solutions.

About Cope Mental Health Project

Cope was formed as a community-based mental health and psychosocial support program designed to support refugees and asylum seekers displaced in Indonesia. The aim is to provide a low cost, accessible, peer driven psychological support to all refugee community members.

Cope Program Objectives

• Create an ongoing system for identification, access, treatment, referrals, and advocacy for refugee mental health in Indonesia.
• Provide resources and education at an early point to all community members, to overcome the need for more intensive treatments after conditions have become chronic.
• Develop capacity of local refugees and professionals to assist individuals experiencing mental illnesses.
• Increase access to mental health services though the development of a self-guided support tool.
• Advocate for increased awareness and access to support for refugee populations in Indonesia.
